New research by the University of Nottingham has found exercise increases the body's own cannabis-like substances, which in turn reduces inflammation and can treat arthritis, cancer, and heart disease.

Exercise intervention in people with arthritis, did not just reduce their pain, but it also lowered the levels of inflammatory substances and increased levels of cannabis-like substances produced by their own bodies, called endocannabinoids. Endocannabinoids are signalling molecules that help regulate various processes, such as pain, memory, mood, immunity, and stress. Leadresearcher, Dr Amrita Vijay, notes that “As interest in cannabidiol oil and other supplements increases, it is important to know that simple lifestyle interventions like exercise can modulate endocannabinoids." Vijay highlights that sometimes what we need is already readily available - exercise to soothe your body first.
